For his new album, Brian brought together a group of “who’s who” R&B in music, including Noel Gourdin, Vivian Green, and Stokley Williams of Mint Condition.

The dB’s – Falling Off The Sky CD (Bar None)
The dB’s first new record in a quarter-century embodies the same combination of infectious melodic craft, playful sonic experimentation and barbed lyrical insight that established them as key progenitors of the Southern indie-rock explosion of the ’80s. Vinyl version due June 26.

Jimmy Fallon – Blow Your Pants Off CD/LP (WB)

Far East Movement – Dirty Bass CD (Interscope)
Far East Movement create music that bridges the gap between underground party records and mainstream pop music. A mix of hip-hop, electro, alternative, and dance they call “dirty bass.”

Giant Giant Sand – Tucson CD (Fire)
Just when you thought Giant Sand couldn’t get any bigger, Howe Gelb has done just that by regrouping, expanding and magnifying his vision with the newest version of past ensembles, calling it (appropriately enough) Giant Giant Sand.

Guided By Voices - Class Clown Spots A UFO CD/LP (GBV Inc.)
One could argue there’s more depth and variety here than on Alien Lanes, that there are better songs here than on Bee Thousand, but that’s an argument no one’s ever going to win, at least definitively.

Pat Metheny – Unity Band CD (Nonesuch)
For the first time since his 1980 release 80/81, guitarist Pat Metheny has recorded with a band that features tenor saxophone. Unity Band introduces a new Metheny ensemble with Chris Potter on sax and bass clarinet, longtime collaborator Antonio Sanchez on drums, and Ben Williams on bass.
