Guests include Taylor Swift, Sharon Van Etten & Robin Pecknold, and others.

Terence Blanchard – Absence CD (Blue Note)

Botonist / Thief – Cicatrix / Diamond Brush CD/LP (Prophecy)
San Francisco post-black metal outfit Botanist and Los Angeles based electronic project Thief release a split album.

The Bronx – Bronx VI CD/LP (Cooking Vinyl)
The Bronx’s sixth studio album Bronx VI builds on the legacy the LA-based rockers have established in its near two-decade existence, but which definitely proves the door to what’s next has not just been kicked down but chopped up and burned to a cinder.

Chvrches – Screen Violence CD/LP/Cassette (Glassnote)
Chvrches’ highly anticipated fourth studio effort, Screen Violence was recorded almost entirely remotely between Los Angeles and Glasgow with members Lauren Mayberry, Martin Doherty and Iain Cook self-producing and mixing the album via video calls and audio sharing programs to create something that is unique and special, but inherently their own.

The Cold Stares – Heavy Shoes CD/LP (Mascot)
Now available on CD. Dirty fuzzed-up rock and roll meet blues, garage, desert rock and a Southern Gothic sensibility, an intense amalgam of Led Zeppelin meets Free, Soundgarden meets Black Crowes.

Madi Diaz – History Of A Feeling CD/LP (ANTI-)
Rage, confusion, despair, self-deception, and introspection – Madi Diaz cycles through the full spectrum of emotions on History Of A Feeling, her new album. It’s an album that undeniably marks Diaz’s status as a first-rate songwriter, a craft she’s spent years refining, and one wherein Madi establishes herself as an artist capable of distilling profound feelings with ease. Diaz pulls from a range of folk, country, and pop leanings – she is as much influenced by Patty Griffin and Lori McKenna as she is the sonics of PJ Harvey and directness of Kathleen Hanna.

DMX – Exodus CD (Def Jam)
Exodus, executive produced by the legendary Swizz Beatz, solidifies DMX as part of today’s conversation and a forward motion in hip-hop. Featuring a starry cast that includes Jay-Z, The LOX, Nas, Alicia Keys, Usher, Bono, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Griselda Boys, Moneybagg Yo, and a guest appearance from his son, Exodus.

Alejandro Escovedo – La Cruzada CD/2xLP+MP3 (Yep Roc)
This is Alejandro Escovedo’s critically acclaimed album, The Crossing, with the vocals recorded in Spanish. With the lyrics translated into and sung in Spanish, the concept album which tells the story of two young immigrants to the US, who bond over a mutual love of punk rock as they struggle with the racism and discrimination as immigrants, becomes an even more intimate experience.

Robben Ford – Pure CD/LP (earMUSIC)
With nine unique tracks, Pure features a pure Robben Ford – a guitar virtuoso who has a tremendous music vocabulary of jazz, blues and rock. The album seamlessly blends a soulful west coast vibe with bluesy hard rock.

The Grascals – Up All Night CD (Mountain Home)
Though the collection is new, the sextet’s followers will find familiar touchstones in four previously released hit singles that bookend the set: the nostalgic recollection of “Sleepy Little Town”, sentimental favorites “Flowers And Lace” and “Thankful”, and the bluegrass gospel classic “Traveling The Highway Home”. In between, listeners will find another eight songs that fill in the portrait of a group at the height of their powers, blending soulful ballads, energetic traditional bluegrass, gospel songs and an outlook that centers on family, faith and the old home place.

Steve Gunn – Other You CD/2xLP+MP3 (Matador)
The sixth studio album by American singer Steve Gunn, Other You, was recorded during two visits to Los Angeles. The relocation was in a way more than geographical – the surroundings, warm climate and tight-knit studio team encouraged Gunn to tap into new approaches, techniques and emotional reservoirs, casting off established notions, habits and hang-ups.  He is assisted by contributions come from friends and fellow artists including Juliana Barwick, Mary Lattimore, Bridget St. John, Jeff Parker, Bill MacKay, Ben Bertrand, drummer Ryan Sawyer (TV On The Radio, Thurston Moore, Gang Gang Dance), and others.

Halsey – If I Can Have Love, I Want Power CD/LP (Capitol)
“This album is a concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth. It was very important to me that the cover art conveyed the sentiment of my journey over the past few months. The dichotomy of the Madonna and the Whore. The idea that me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully. My body has belonged to the world in many different ways the past few years, and this image is my means of reclaiming my autonomy and establishing my pride and strength as a life force for my human being.”

(hed) P.E. – Sandmine CDEP (Suburban Noize)
New EP from the Southern California-based rapcore/nu-metal band.

The album is classic rockabilly at its absolute finest and showcases Setzer at the top of his career. [Vinyl edition due December 3.]

Southern Avenue – Be The Love You Want CD/LP (BMG)
Memphis soul powerhouse Southern Avenue release their third full-length album.

Teenage Bottlerocket – Sick Sesh! CD (Fat Wreck Chords)
Recorded in November 2020 at the Blasting Room (the band’s eighth straight full-length with producer Andrew Berlin), Sick Sesh! is a little bit rougher around the edges than the last few Teenage Bottlerocket albums, from the haunting “Statistic” to the panic-inducing “Strung Out On Stress” to the buzzsaw lead of “Semi Truck.” [Vinyl edition due November 12.]

Yann Tiersen – Kerber CD/LP (Mute)
Kerber is a new chapter in Yann Tiersen’s career. If Portrait was revisiting and reassessing the past, Kerber draws a line under that and looks to the future. Both a follow up to EUSA and an album unlike any Yann has made before. Kerber takes its name from a Chapel in a small village on Ouessant. Influenced by the close geographical area around him, each track is tied to a place, mapping out the direct landscape around Yann’s home. This is a piano-centered electronic album.

Kat Von D – Love Made Me Do It CD/LP (Kartel)
Gifted multi-hyphenate Kat Von D begins an electrifying new chapter in her career with the release of her debut album, Love Made Me Do It. Having been a classically trained pianist since her youth with a deep appreciation for music of all genres, Kat poured her heart and soul into the project which features collaborations with Dave Grohl, Linda Perry, Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio), Peter Murphy (Bauhaus), Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails), Ladyhawke and Charo.
