NINE POUND HAMMER AT CD CENTRAL
This is one of those shows we've always thought SHOULD happen! And now it will. Lexington's redneck-punk legends, Nine Pound Hammer, will treat the faithful to a free outdoor show at CD Central on Friday, May 23. This will be an event not to be missed. The show is tentatively set for 5:30 p.m., but we're still working out the details so check next week's newsletter or the web site for updates.
MEMORIAL DAY COOKOUT!
A CD Central tradition continues.... This year on Memorial Day (Monday, May 26) we have FIVE bands performing for you, a used CD sale, and of course, hot dogs on the grill. More details next week, but in the meantime here's the band schedule:
Noon: Rainjunkies
1 p.m.: Varsovia
2 p.m.: Through Trials
3 p.m.: Two Foot Yard
4 p.m.: Middlefork
Know Your Own Vol. 3 Release Party / WRFL Benefit
Join us Friday, May 16th as we celebrate (a little belatedly, we admit) the release of the new Lexington music compilation Know Your Own Vol. 3 (co-released by CD Central, WRFL 88.1FM and Action Arts) at Al's Bar (corner of Limestone and 6th St). Performances by Thee American Revolution (featuring members of the Apples in Stereo, Ideal Free Distribution, and the Blueberries), Bedtime, Matt Duncan, The Joybombs, and more. Doors open at 7:30pm. Show starts at 8pm. ALL AGES WELCOME. Cover is $5 with all door money going to WRFL's "Build the Tower, Boost the Power" fund. Good music, good food (Al's has a wonderful grill), and benefiting a good cause. (If you haven't grabbed a copy of the disc yet, stop into the shop and find it FREE at the counter or plan to pick one up at the show.)

THIS WEEK'S FEATURE AT CDCENTRALMUSIC.COM: LAST SHADOW PUPPETS
THE LAST SHADOW PUPPETS are Alex Turner (from Arctic Monkeys) and Miles Kane (from The Rascals); THE AGE OF THE UNDERSTATEMENT is an album of 12 full-blooded songs, bold and brassy, full of drama, wit and melody, recorded in France by the young duo. These songs were then boldly underscored by Owen Pallett, who conducted and recorded arrangements for each track with the 22-piece London Metropolitan Orchestra -- the result is an album that sounds classic and yet is instantly timeless. Check out a few tracks in our pop-up jukebox at http://www.cdcentralmusic.com (just click on the "Artist of the Week" button.)

JASON ISBELL & THE 400 UNIT – Live at Twist & Shout 11.16.2007
We weren't able to tape Jason Isbell's in-store show at CD Central last year, but here's the next best thing.
This show was recorded on 11/16/07 at fellow indie record store Twist & Shout in Denver. It features Jason Isbell (vocals/guitar), Jimbo Hart (bass), Browan Lollar (guitar), Derry deBorja (keys), and Ryan Tillery (drums). In stock now!

JOSH RITTER – Live at the 9:30 Club
Josh Ritter returns this spring with the “Small Town USA” tour in support of his highly praised 2007 release, The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter (Sony BMG Music Entertainment/Victor). Named by Entertainment Weekly as one of “The 10 Most Exciting Artists Now,” Ritter continues to receive critical acclaim for this, his fourth full-length album. Of the new release, the Washington Post describes it as his “…most freewheeling and satisfying record to date…” while Amazon declares it “…the best album of 2007, hands down, by the most under-accorded American musical genius.”
Additionally, a new EP, Live at the 9:30 Club, will be released, featuring songs from the album. Originally broadcast by NPR’s All Songs Considered, the 8-song disc features recordings from Ritter’s sold out DC concert in October 2007. The limited edition EP will be available exclusively at CD Central and other select independent record stores nationwide.
LISTENING STATION FEATURES IN MAY
Tokyo Police Club - Elephant Shell
First full-length from the Ontario band. 180-gram vinyl includes an MP3 download of the album as well as bonus remixes. "Each track a potential single, these guys don't hang around, going straight for the jugular, blasting out soaring indie rock nuggets honed by endless touring." -- Clash Magazine
A.A. Bondy - American Hearts
Solo debut from Scott Bondy (aka A.A. Bondy), former Verbena main-man, gets some proper distribution. American Hearts is dark and sardonic -- but it's not as claustrophobic, tortured or troubled as you might expect. The songs are influenced by an amalgam of folk and blues, filtered through the mind of someone who knows what makes a great rock song breathe.
Hayden - In Field & Town
The Canadian's first album in four years -- eleven tracks that perfectly match his deep infectious voice and toe-tapping folk tunes.
Jamie Lidell - Jim
A diverse record mixing up gospel grooves, fiercely passionate soul, delicately moving ballads, thumping R&B, synthed-up disco, and even a touch of "hillbilly funk." An album that will switch you on in the morning, move you on the dancefloor, and take you down in the small hours.
The Kooks - Konk
Sophomore release from the UK garage rockers continues to exhibit their freewheeling ways. Bonus CDEP with two unreleased tracks free with purchase while supplies last.
