"Long Violent History is a collection of instrumental pieces intended to create a sonic soundscape for the listener to set the tone to reflect on the last track which is my own observational piece on the times we are in.” Continuing in his YouTube video message, Tyler Childers discusses Covid, quarantine, the loss of family members, job loss and the struggles to make ends meet, combined with racial injustice, protests and news we can’t trust, all leading to a country feeling a general angst. He points to our “inability to empathize with another individual”. He goes on to suggest ways to preserve our heritage that don’t involve “a flag with a history steeped in racism and treason”. Things like gardening, canning, raising animals, quilting, learning a fiddle tune, etc. “Love each other, no exceptions. And, remember, united we stand, divided we fall”. Long Violent History is available 1/15/21 on vinyl. 100% of net proceeds from Long Violent History will support underserved communities in the Appalachian region through the Hickman Holler Appalachian Relief Fund.
